A Note From Pastor Garrick & Shonda

Family, I want to take a moment to speak from my heart.

As many of you know, October is often recognized as Pastor Appreciation Month, and Journey Church had planned to take up a special monetary offering for me this coming Sunday. I can’t begin to express how deeply touched I am by the thought, the love, and the sentiment behind it. It means more to me than words could ever say to know that you value the work of the ministry and the time, prayer, and heart that go into leading this church family.

However, after much prayer and reflection, I have chosen to graciously and respectfully decline the personal offering this year. Please know this does not come from a lack of appreciation—it’s quite the opposite. Please, please don’t be offended at me for declining, but I just don’t feel right about it this year. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for everything this church has done, especially over the past several weeks. Your faithfulness, generosity, and unity during our revival, your service in so many areas, and your continued giving toward the needs of the church have blessed me more than any gift ever could.

Our church has seen record growth this year and has been able to complete much-needed facility upgrades and unexpected repairs because of your giving hearts. That is pastor appreciation in action. You’ve shown your love for God, His house, and His people—and that means the world to me.

My heart as your pastor is not to receive, but to see you blessed. So generously give, but I want every dollar you give to go toward the mission, the outreach, and the vision that God has given Journey Church. We have some upcoming expenses and repairs that will make a real difference for the ministry, and I would much rather see the church strengthened and equipped to keep moving forward. Any offering received for me would be forwarded to those things, please honor my wishes by not taking any offering for me personally this year. Please no further commentary is necessary. ❤️

Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your prayers, and your incredible hearts. You are the greatest gift a pastor could ever ask for, and I am honored beyond measure to serve alongside each of you.

I am not trying to make any moral statements or cast any shadows on any other pastors or pastor appreciation day as a whole.  I think it is a good thing. For me, just not this year. Maybe next year!

Please don’t read anything further into my decision other than I just didn’t feel to do it.

With all my love and appreciation,

– Pastors Garrick & Shonda
