Apart from Christ, there are people who are smarter, more gifted, more resourced, and more talented. Human ability always has a ceiling. Human strength eventually runs out. Human wisdom reaches its limit.

But Jesus never asked us to live by our own supply.

When I stay connected to the Vine, my source changes. I am no longer relying on my strength, my wisdom, or my resources—I am drawing from His. And His strength is without measure. His wisdom is unlimited. His provision never runs dry.

That is why abiding matters so much.

Fruit does not come from effort alone; it comes from connection. Prayer keeps us connected. Generosity keeps our hearts aligned. Obedience keeps the flow open. And just as importantly, we must be willing to remove anything that hinders that connection—anything that dulls our hunger, distracts our focus, or weakens our devotion.

This morning’s resolve is simple and powerful: Whatever you need to do to stay connected to the Vine—do those things. Scripture affirms this when it says that we are “created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

At the same time, Scripture gives us a clear boundary. Our goal is not self-creation, self-reinvention, or self-definition apart from God. When “finding yourself” becomes detached from God’s Word, people often drift into extremes—changing what God never asked them to change, embracing lifestyles He never intended, and redefining identity in ways that lead to confusion rather than freedom.

The Bible gives us a higher and holier aim:
“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son” (Romans 8:29).

Our ultimate purpose is not to become whoever we imagine ourselves to be, but to be shaped into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

This does not mean denying our individuality. It means allowing the Holy Spirit to refine us—strengthening what God has given, correcting what needs growth, and maturing us into Christlike character. Scripture encourages us to identify weaknesses that need discipline (Hebrews 12:11), to recognize and steward our gifts faithfully (1 Peter 4:10), and even to learn from godly examples. The apostle Paul boldly said, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

There is wisdom in admiring godly strength, perseverance, faithfulness, and endurance—whether seen in faithful generations before us, or in men and women of God whose lives reflected unshakable trust in the Lord. But above all, our highest pursuit is Jesus Himself.

And the good news is this: God does not ask us to become like Christ in our own strength.
“We all… are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

By the power and enablement of the Holy Spirit, we are daily being shaped—not into a copy of someone else, but into a clearer reflection of Christ.

⸻

Prayer

Father, I thank You that my life has purpose, design, and direction in You. I reject the confusion of this world and the pressure to define myself apart from Your Word. I receive Your truth—that You are conforming me to the image of Your dear Son. Help me recognize the gifts You have placed in me and steward them for Your glory. Give me humility to address my weaknesses, wisdom to learn from godly examples, and grace to grow in Christlike character. By the power of the Holy Spirit, transform me day by day into the likeness of Jesus. I choose Your design over my own, Your will over the world’s voice, and Your glory above all else. In Jesus’ mighty Name, amen.

The One laid in a manger is the eternal King, and His Kingdom is unlike any other. Earthly kingdoms rise and fall. Wealth fades. Power shifts. Influence disappears. But the Kingdom of God is everlasting.

Jesus later taught us, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33). Why? Because the Kingdom is the only thing that lasts forever. When we seek what is eternal, God faithfully supplies what is temporary. We don’t chase money, power, or possessions—we seek the Kingdom, knowing those things will pass away, but His reign never will.

This Christmas, we rejoice in the humility of the manger and the majesty of the throne. We celebrate the baby, yes—but we worship the King. His Kingdom cannot be shaken, and those who belong to it share in something eternal.

Prayer:
Father, we thank You for the gift of Your Son—the King who came in humility and reigns forever. We celebrate Jesus, born in a manger yet crowned with everlasting authority. Help us to seek first Your Kingdom, knowing it is the one thing that will never fade or fail. We choose what is eternal over what is temporary. Our hearts rejoice today—not just in the baby, but in the King. This is the prayer I pray for you. Please in return, remember to keep me and my family if your prayers as well!

Heavenly Father, In the mighty Name of Jesus, I come before You as the under-shepherd of this flock, entrusted by the Chief Shepherd, to lift up before You the precious people You have blessed me to pastor. I thank You for every member, every family, every child, every youth, every senior, and every visitor You have brought to this church. I thank You that each one is fearfully and wonderfully made, created for Your glory, and called for such a time as this. These are Your sheep; I thank You for the privilege of serving You and them as their pastor. Help me to do my job well.

Father, I bless them today. Father, I speak the blessing over Your people today in the mighty Name of Jesus. I declare Your Word over their lives, for it is written that Your Word shall not return void, but it shall accomplish what You please and prosper in the thing whereunto You send it (Isaiah 55:11). May they always be the head and not the tail, above only and not beneath (Deuteronomy 28:13). May they be blessed with health and healing, for by the stripes of Jesus they were healed (1 Peter 2:24). May they be blessed with provision and abundance, for You shall supply all their need according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). May they be blessed with peace, for You will keep them in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You (Isaiah 26:3). May they be blessed with strength, for they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them (Philippians 4:13). And blessed with victory, for greater is He that is in them than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Let Your blessing overtake them and make them a testimony of Your goodness in the land of the living. May their lives be good, happy and healthy and free from struggle and sorrow.

Salvation & Spiritual Growth Lord, I thank You for the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ. For those in the church, our families, and friends who have not yet made Jesus Christ their Savior, I pray that today will be the day of salvation for them. Draw their hearts by Your Spirit, open their eyes to the truth, and bring them from darkness into light. Soften their hearts to receive the seed of the gospel. Cause them to be in the right situation conducive to repentance and receiving salvation. Cause the perfect people to be in their path to witness to them the right words at the right time. I call the backslidden and church hurt back into position; restored, healed and productive. For every believer, I pray they be rooted and grounded in love, growing in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Keep them from sin and distractions. Let the Word of Christ dwell in them richly and let their faith not fail in the day of trial. Let them all be strong in faith and filled with Holy Spirit daily. May they be full of peace, joy, love and sound mind.

Revival & Baptism in the Holy Ghost Father, baptize every believer in the Holy Ghost and fire, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, and with boldness to witness. Let revival fire burn in their hearts, in their homes, and in this church. Fill them with Holy Spirit daily in great measure. Let the wind of Pentecost blow again in their lives. Let them walk in the gifts and power of the Spirit, demonstrating the Kingdom of God wherever they go. Fill them with the oil of Joy. May rivers of living water flow out of their spirits. May they produce the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance. May they walk in the Spirt that they not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Keep them from sin and temptation.

Knowing & Living in God’s Will Father, I ask that they know and walk in Your perfect will for their lives in general, in the specific calling and assignment which You have placed on each one. Let them delight to do Your will. Open their hearts to receive direction from the Holy Spirit and let their steps be ordered by the Lord. Help them to be teachable, coachable, and correctable. May they walk in divine alignment in Your will every day. Give us an all-consuming passion for evangelism.

Wisdom, Faith & Direction Lord, give them the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of You. Let their faith not fail. Let their confidence in You grow stronger day by day. Make straight paths for their feet, and let them hear Your voice clearly saying, “This is the way, walk ye in it.” Protect them from wrong decisions, deceitful people, and traps of the enemy. You are Jehovah-Raah, The Lord our Shepherd and I ask You to lead them. You said Your sheep hear Your voice, may they hear Your voice and follow it.

Deliverance from Evil Lord, just as Jesus taught us to pray, I ask You to deliver them from evil—every evil plan, every evil spirit, every evil person, and every evil work. I declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against them in judgment is condemned. Break every yoke, remove every burden, and shut every door the enemy has tried to open in their lives. Remove anything or any person who hinders them from Your plan and destiny for their lives. Keep them from sin and every weight that holds them back.

Deliverance & Freedom I declare over them that every bondage is broken in the Name of Jesus. I Jesus’ Name I command demonic chains of addiction, fear, oppression, depression, suicide, and generational curses to go! Be destroyed by the anointing. I bind every evil spirit & loosen them from every evil assignment against them. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty, and I decree that liberty reigns in their lives every day.

Healing & Health Lord, You are Jehovah Rapha—the Lord our Healer. Heal them today. I speak life and health into their bodies. From the top of their head to the soles of their feet, let Your healing virtue flow. I rebuke every sickness, infirmity, chronic condition, and pain. Let their youth be renewed like the eagle’s. I thank You for wholeness in spirit, soul, and body.

Provision & Prosperity Father, You are Jehovah Jireh—the Lord our Provider. I declare that every need is met according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Reveal the path of generosity, sowing, giving, and tithing so they can be supernaturally blessed financially. Give them good jobs with excellent pay and benefits. Give them promotions, raises, bonuses, open doors, and divine opportunities. Cause their businesses to grow, and investments to prosper. May they have increased sales, tips and commissions. I declare debts canceled, bills paid, and abundance released. I speak the blessing of the Lord that makes rich and adds no sorrow to it. Thank You for breaking the curse of poverty and lack off them. Give them increased and unexpected finances, land, houses, goods and services. Let the windows of heaven open over them, pouring out blessings they have no room to contain.

Right Connections & Protection from Wrong Ones Father, divinely connect them to the right people who will encourage their faith, sharpen their walk, and help them fulfill their calling. At the same time, remove every wrong connection, ungodly influence, and relationship that would pull them away from Your will. Give them favor with business, political, governmental, educational, community and spiritual leaders.

Protection & Safety I plead the blood of Jesus over every person, every household, and every possession. Assign Your angels to encamp around them and deliver them from all harm. Keep them safe from accidents, violence, theft, natural disasters, and every scheme of the enemy. May no evil befall them, neither shall any plague come near their dwelling. Cause legal and professional matters to be settled and resolved in their favor. May angels cause things to work out in their favor. Protect our schools and students from violence, bullying, and secular evil influences.

Strength & Endurance Lord, strengthen them with might by Your Spirit in their inner man. Let the joy of the Lord be their strength. Help them run and not be weary, walk and not faint. Let them mount up with wings like eagles, overcoming every obstacle with faith and patience. I pray their faith not fail. Give them mental strength and soundness of mind.

Family, Marriage & Relationships Lord, bless their marriages with unity, love, forgiveness, and faithfulness. I declare that no weapon formed against their home will prosper. I speak peace and joy over their households and blessing over their children. May their children have good behavior. For those believing for a spouse, bring them the right godly person in the right time. For those believing for children, bless the fruit of their womb. Let their households serve the Lord with gladness. May their homes be joyful, peaceful, and happy. Deliver every home from drama, strife and fighting. Fill them with laughter and peace.

Church Family & Ministry Father, thank You for the unity of this body; make us of one heart and one mind, serving You with joy. Deliver us from mindsets of paranoia, suspicion, unfounded assumptions, and overreacting. Let no strife, gossip, slander, or fighting ever be found among us. Expose and uproot every wrong motive and agenda and help us to gravitate toward peace and reconciliation. Help us to resolve disagreements and conflict in love and in a spirit of restoration. Help us to be patient with each other, loving and long-suffering as new believers and immature Christians mature and grow. Lord, when those who are immature act immaturely, help those of us who are mature to respond maturely; when others act in the flesh, may we respond in the Spirit and in love. Help us to disciple the new believers well. Give us discernment to recognize and divide between those who are simply immature and growing and those who refuse to mature, continue to cause problems, and seek division. Lord, separate the wheat from the tares and remove the wolves from among the sheep. Concerning those who gossip, slander, and cause division, drama, and problems, may they quickly mature and repent or be removed from Journey Church. May those who spread rumors, lies, and trouble repent, or be exposed and removed, so that Your peace, unity, and holiness may prevail in this house.

Let every ministry of this church be fruitful and Spirit-filled. Let Your presence mark every service, every outreach, and every gathering. Use us to bring revival to our community and let the gospel be preached with power. Increase signs, wonders, and miracles, and the supernatural among us and in every service. May the gifts of the Holy Spirit operate in every service and in every life as the Spirit wills. Send laborers into the harvest in every area of our church and ministry. May we be fully furnished unto every good work. Help us to grow in numbers and maturity. Give us an unstoppable passion and focus for the Great Commission. Help us to be doers and not just hearers of the word. Lord send laborers into every department and every ministry of the church.

Father, I thank You that this prayer is heard in heaven and answered on earth. I call it done, sealed, and established in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Daily Pastoral Prophetic Declaration

In the Name of Jesus, I bless the people of this church, the flock God has entrusted to my care. I declare salvation over every lost and backslidden loved one. They are coming into the Kingdom today. I declare they are rooted in God’s Word, strong in faith, and walking in His perfect will.

Every plan of the enemy is destroyed. They are delivered from all evil—spirit, soul, and body. Every chain is broken; every burden is lifted; every curse is canceled by the blood of Jesus. They are healed, whole, and strong from the top of their head to the soles of their feet.

Provision is theirs. Every need is met, every debt is canceled, and the blessing of the Lord overtakes them.

They walk in wisdom, favor, discernment, and divine direction. They are surrounded by the right people and separated from the wrong ones.

They are baptized in the Holy Ghost and fire, walking in power, love, and boldness. Revival burns in their hearts, their homes, and our church. They walk in peace, hope and strong faith. They are full of joy and laughter and stress free. They are mentally and spiritually mature and longsuffering with those who are still maturing.

They walk in the full revelation of their covenant.

Their marriages are blessed, their families are whole, their children serve the Lord. The joy of the Lord is their strength, and their faith will not fail.
Angels guard them. No evil shall befall them.

I declare this is a people who prospers in all things and are in health, even as their soul prospers. I bless them in the mighty Name of Jesus. (I have changed the pronouns in the prayer—without changing its meaning—so that it applies to all of us, and I have highlighted those changes.)

“Father, in name of Jesus I pray for pastors’ Garrick and Shonda, myself, my family, and my church: 1:16-23 I Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto us the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him: The eyes of our understanding being enlightened; that we may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power, Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is His body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all. 2:6 And hath raised us up together , and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That He would grant us, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in our hearts by faith; that we, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that we might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. (Ephesians 1:16-23; 2:6; 3:14-21)

As I read through the names on this list, I am filled with emotion.

Many of you have stood with us through years of ministry—some of you from the very beginning. You have seen our highs and lows, our battles and breakthroughs, and yet, you’ve remained. For that, I cannot thank you enough.

This moment is not just administrative—it’s deeply spiritual. It marks the beginning of something powerful and sacred as we step into this new chapter of formal membership, accountability, and alignment. I truly believe we are entering into a season of growth and revival, and I’m so grateful to be walking into it with you by my side.

Shonda and I pray for you daily. You are not just members—you are family. You are the heart and soul of this ministry, and I thank God for each of you.

What’s Next in the Membership Process:

To complete your membership:
1. Please ensure you’ve reviewed the membership expectations posted on our website.

2. Attend a one-hour membership class.

3. (Optional) Have a personal meeting with me.

4. Be officially welcomed on our first Membership Sunday—tentatively set for the first Sunday in December.

If you’ve been part of Journey for several years, a personal meeting with me is not required—but I’d still love the opportunity to sit down with you, pray with you, and thank you personally for your years of faithfulness. For newer members, a brief meeting will be part of the process.

We'll be offering more membership classes on Wednesday nights, and I’m also working on a video version of the class that you can watch at your convenience. Myself or my sister Laine will be reaching out to help you schedule a meeting, if you choose to have one.

Once you’ve completed your class (and optional meeting), we’ll move you forward to be received publicly on Membership Sunday. We plan to continue receiving new members monthly, at least through the initial launch season.

A Few Exciting Updates:
• In January, the current Journey Family page will be replaced with a new Journey Membership Page.

• I also hope to launch online prayer gatherings from time to time (possibly via Zoom).

• And just like we’ve done before, I’ll begin sending occasional personal texts as I pray through the membership list—just one more way for us to stay connected and cover one another in prayer.

Know this: I pray for everyone who walks through the doors of Journey Church. But those who have stepped into covenant membership hold a special place in my heart. You are the backbone of this ministry.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. Watch for a follow-up message soon with more instructions.

Shonda and I love you deeply. Thank you again for walking this road with us—and for helping build something strong, Spirit-filled, and lasting.

With love and gratitude,
Pastor Garrick

I can’t begin to express how deeply touched I am by the thought, the love, and the sentiment behind it. It means more to me than words could ever say to know that you value the work of the ministry and the time, prayer, and heart that go into leading this church family.

However, after much prayer and reflection, I have chosen to graciously and respectfully decline the personal offering this year. Please know this does not come from a lack of appreciation—it’s quite the opposite. Please, please don’t be offended at me for declining, but I just don’t feel right about it this year. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for everything this church has done, especially over the past several weeks. Your faithfulness, generosity, and unity during our revival, your service in so many areas, and your continued giving toward the needs of the church have blessed me more than any gift ever could.

Our church has seen record growth this year and has been able to complete much-needed facility upgrades and unexpected repairs because of your giving hearts. That is pastor appreciation in action. You’ve shown your love for God, His house, and His people—and that means the world to me.

My heart as your pastor is not to receive, but to see you blessed. So generously give, but I want every dollar you give to go toward the mission, the outreach, and the vision that God has given Journey Church. We have some upcoming expenses and repairs that will make a real difference for the ministry, and I would much rather see the church strengthened and equipped to keep moving forward. Any offering received for me would be forwarded to those things, please honor my wishes by not taking any offering for me personally this year. Please no further commentary is necessary. ❤️

Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, your prayers, and your incredible hearts. You are the greatest gift a pastor could ever ask for, and I am honored beyond measure to serve alongside each of you.

I am not trying to make any moral statements or cast any shadows on any other pastors or pastor appreciation day as a whole. I think it is a good thing. For me, just not this year. Maybe next year!

Please don’t read anything further into my decision other than I just didn’t feel to do it.

With all my love and appreciation,

– Pastors Garrick & Shonda

What a week it has been at Journey Church during our Revival with Pastor Cody Jones!

This week has been nothing short of incredible — lives touched, hearts changed, healings and the presence of God so strong in every service. It had truly become a community outreach! But I want to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation to the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to make it all possible.

Our Children’s Ministry has gone above and beyond. There has been as much ministry going on downstairs as upstairs. Many of the kids we’ve ministered to this week needed extra love, care, and attention — and our team met those needs with grace, patience, and the heart of Jesus. I’m especially grateful for Pastor Melissa, whose compassion, experience, and tender heart for children have shined so brightly. She texted me saying: “I couldn’t have done it this week without Angie, Kelli, Larena, Paige and all the others… We truly have the A-Team!” Shonda and I must agree. I feel that way about the whole volunteer team!

Angie, thank you for pouring in so much of your own time, love, and even resources for crafts and snacks. Kelli, Larena (who gets up for work at 3:45), Paige, and the whole crew, your kindness and dedication didn’t go unnoticed. ❤️

To everyone who worked in the parking lot, helping direct the overwhelming number of cars each night — thank you!

To our door greeters, ushers, and security team who faithfully watched the halls, stood guard, and served with joy — you are the unsung heroes.

To my sister and brother-in-law, who have ministered to our guest speaker and his team every night — thank you for serving with excellence and hospitality.

A huge shoutout to our worship leader, Shawn Rosenbaum. He’s been standing at the door greeting people every single night, even though he gets up early every morning for work. He has worked behind the scenes just as diligently as he does on the stage. That’s the heart of a true servant and sets an example of “Kingdom” mindedness. If you can't work with Shawn, you can't work with anyone!

Thank you to Amy, Kolleen, my mom, and all who’ve worked tirelessly behind the scenes every single night — people like you are the backbone that holds it all together.

To Jeff Caldwell, Johnathan Smith, Andrew, and Joshua, Jonathan Williams, Danny, thank you for handling sound, media, maintenance, security, ushering, and every one of the “million little things” that come up during revival. Your excellence and dependability keep everything running smoothly.

And I can’t forget our local friends who stepped in to help — Will Keath (our plumber from Mt. Sterling), Fast Flow Plumbing from Richmond, and Comfort Heat & Air, who went the extra mile to keep us up and running this week, sometimes without even charging us. That’s true Kingdom partnership.

We’ve had record crowds that have far exceeded the size of our building — and that’s a great problem to have! But it takes a lot of teamwork to make that happen, and every person who served, gave, parked, greeted, prayed, sang, or fixed something shares in the same reward of the souls that were saved. Thanks to everyone who has taken time to be here. Every hand lifted, every voice, every seat full makes a difference to the atmosphere of revival.

If I didn’t mention your name specifically, please know this — I see you, I’m aware, and I’m deeply grateful. Every act of service matters to God, and it matters to me.

To everyone who has also supported this week financially — thank you. Your giving has helped fuel the fire of revival, and we’re believing for great harvests ahead! Many sacrificed sleep, time, money, even taken off work and planned vacations around this week. It doesn't go unnoticed by us, and most importantly by God.

My heart truly overflows. Tears fill my eyes as I think about what God has done and how faithfully His people have served. I love each and every one of you more than words can say.

Journey Church — you are the real deal.
Let’s keep this fire burning!

– Pastors Garrick & Shonda

The Mission of the Church

Amen.” (Matthew 28:19–20)

I often hear questions about the mission and vision of Journey Church. These are natural, valid inquiries, and I’m grateful for those who want to know what drives us forward. While I do plan to share a more detailed mission statement the coming weeks, I want to begin by opening my heart regarding the larger purpose of the Church according to God’s Word.

You see, my conviction is that the local church does not invent its own mission—Jesus Christ already has one, and we are simply called to fulfill it. That’s why I believe our primary goal must always reflect His highest priority: reaching the lost with the Gospel (Mark 16:15; Luke 19:10). This is not just another program or a catchy slogan; it’s the heartbeat of God.

Beyond that, we are also commissioned to disciple those who come to faith (Matthew 28:19–20), cultivating their relationship with the Holy Spirit, and guiding them toward spiritual maturity. The Church is meant to be a place of growth—both in spirit and soul—where believers are strengthened in God’s Word and empowered by the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:4; 1 Corinthians 12–14).

At our core, we recognize that we exist to bring light to a dark world. Jesus said we are “the light of the world—a city set on a hill” (Matthew 5:14–16). This means we’re called to make a positive impact on our community and beyond. We also believe in teaching people how to live godly lives and experience the abundant life Christ promised (John 10:10).

Benevolence, outreach, building relationships, praying for one another, worshiping together, and pooling our resources for a greater Kingdom impact—these are all vital expressions of a healthy local assembly. Furthermore, God has ordained the local church to facilitate the fivefold ministry gifts for “the perfecting of the saints” (Ephesians 4:11–12), ensuring that every believer is equipped to serve God’s purposes.

Moreover, our church should be a place of healing, restoration, and deliverance—a house of prayer and worship, where people experience the glory, manifest presence, and power of God. We believe in raising up the next generation by investing in children and youth, teaching them to stand firm in their faith and boldly represent Christ in every sphere of life. Additionally, we desire to influence government and business leaders through consistent prayer (1 Timothy 2:1–2) and godly engagement, shining the light of Christ in every domain of society, so that our community and nation can flourish under the wisdom and righteousness of God’s Kingdom.

God’s highest priority is indeed the salvation of the lost, and everything else we do ultimately supports that end. Once people are saved, they must be discipled, brought from darkness into God’s marvelous light, and taught to grow in grace and faith. If we desire a larger church or expanded resources, it should be to further Christ’s mission—never our own. We want to remain faithful, knowing God increases what is faithfully used for His Kingdom, and removes what is not (1 Corinthians 3:6–7).

Let it never be said that Journey Church was more concerned with building our own kingdom than with building the Kingdom of Almighty God. If we drift from our first love of soul-winning and disciple-making, Scripture warns us to repent and return to what truly matters (Revelation 2:4–5). We must keep our hearts aligned with Jesus’ instruction to “seek first the Kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33), remembering that every aspect of our lives—family, finances, relationships, and yes, even church—must be fully surrendered to Him (Exodus 20:3; Luke 14:26–27).

Over the next few weeks, we’ll look at the broader purpose of the Church and also define the unique part Journey Church is called to play. Our vision and mission are inseparable from Christ’s overarching command: to preach the Gospel, make disciples, and shine His light in a hurting world. God has entrusted this local body with a special role, yet it’s always part of something far greater than ourselves. We’re a part of His global Church, united in our mission to bring salvation to every corner of the earth (2 Peter 3:9).

My prayer is that by understanding how our local assignment connects to God’s grand purpose, we will be energized and equipped to serve wholeheartedly—both here in our community and beyond. When we unify around the mission of evangelizing the lost, discipling believers, and sending them out to continue the cycle, we become a powerful instrument in God’s hands. The early Church modeled this beautifully, gathering together for teaching, fellowship, and prayer, and then going out to change the world (Acts 2:42–47; Romans 12:4–5; Ephesians 4:16).

I love you all and pray for you daily. My heart’s desire is that we fulfill every good work God has assigned to us, bearing much fruit for His glory. Let us journey together, staying faithful to the mission of Jesus Christ, and trust Him to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think.

(Matthew 28:19–20, Mark 16:15, Luke 19:10, John 10:10, Matthew 5:14–16, Matthew 6:33, Exodus 20:3, Luke 14:26–27, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 Corinthians 3:6–7, Revelation 2:4–5, Ephesians 4:11–12, Acts 2:42–47, Romans 12:4–5, Ephesians 4:16)

Blessings
Pastor Garrick
(Edited 2/8/25)

Each week, much of what I preach and teach focuses on how to live the successful and abundant life that Jesus Christ paid for us to have. **John 10:10** tells us, "The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life." As a pastor, I’m acutely aware of the struggles many people face daily, whether it’s paying bills, dealing with physical ailments, sickness, disease, pain, or depression. I’m also deeply familiar with the family problems, loss, drama, and mental anguish that many endure. These challenges motivate me to help the people of this church, whom I love dearly, to find the abundant life that Christ promised, a life free from these burdens. **Matthew 11:28-30** reminds us, "Then Jesus said, 'Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.'"

I’m not a doctor, lawyer, banker, psychiatrist, or all-knowing guru. I am a preacher and minister of the gospel. So, the help I offer is based on the Word of God, prayerfully delivered in power and demonstration of the Holy Ghost.

At my core, I truly believe that faith in God is not merely a coping mechanism designed to help us endure the suffering and hardships of this world, though it certainly does that. **Psalm 34:19** assures us, "The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time." I believe that the power of the gospel we preach and believe in is the remedy to these issues. It is a source of true prosperity in spirit, soul, and body—mentally, physically, and spiritually; financially, relationally, and personally. This belief drives me to frequently preach and teach along these lines. I preach healing, deliverance, and prosperity. **3 John 1:2** expresses this well: "Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit."

I believe that death, sickness, and disease are our enemies. These adversities come either directly or indirectly as a result of the fall of man, which was initiated by the devil. The devil is our enemy, and everything he brings upon humanity is an enemy to us. As it is written, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10, NLT).

I believe that Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price to remedy these issues. These problems stem from the curse that came upon humanity in the Garden of Eden. However, Jesus Christ dealt with this curse once and for all. “But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing” (Galatians 3:13, NLT). Therefore, it is our responsibility to believe God’s Word and confront these issues, driving them out of our lives through faith and obedience.

Every person struggling to meet their basic needs due to poverty is ultimately in that situation because of the devil and the fallen state of this world. Yet, I believe that the promises, power, and principles taught in the Word of God can lift any individual out of such a terrible condition. As the Bible says, “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, NLT).

This is why I preach blessing, healing, deliverance and financial prosperity—not out of greed or covetousness, but because I want to see the works of the devil destroyed completely. I believe God has commanded us to trust Him and His Word, as it is written, “Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22, NLT). This faith is essential for overcoming the challenges brought by the enemy.

I want each of you to know God’s Word, to believe in God’s Word, to know how to pray, and to know how to take authority over the devil. “Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you” (Luke 10:19, NLT). I desire to see you and your entire family succeed and flourish. I long to see the Kingdom of God expand, grow, and flourish while the kingdom of darkness is defeated and shrinking in our area.
We are in a spiritual war, and this is how we fight. As the Apostle Paul said, “We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments” (2 Corinthians 10:4, NLT). This is why I preach the way I do. I want to see each one of you walking in total victory.

However, this morning, I want to take a different direction. Because of my commitment to these principles, I sometimes worry that I may appear to be too focused on the here and now, neglecting to address one major subject that is of utmost importance: the eternal Kingdom of God. **Colossians 3:1-2** encourages us, "Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth."

Life on this earth is short, but eternity is certain and will last forever. **James 4:14** reminds us, "How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone." While we all face various struggles, not everyone faces the same issues. Some may struggle with sickness, others with financial difficulties, and others with family problems. But there is one thing we all have in common: we will all die someday, and we will all spend eternity somewhere. We will either spend eternity in heaven with God, the millennial reign with Christ, and in the new heavens and the new earth as described in the Bible, or we will spend eternity in hell and eventually the lake of fire forever. **Matthew 25:46** says, "And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life."

No matter how well we live or what struggles we face, this life is short. Our successes and failures will be forgotten, and the world will move on without us. For example, I retired from Toyota two years ago, and as far as I know, they haven’t missed building a single car due to my absence. When we are gone, life will continue, and so will our families, governments, and societies. Quickly our names are forgotten. Everything you worked and struggled to accumulate, and guard will be dispersed and sold in auctions and yard sales in a few hours. The rest will be thrown into the trash and donated to Goodwill. **Ecclesiastes 1:11** reminds us, "We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now."

Therefore, it’s crucial for us to focus on our own eternal existence. The primary purpose of Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection, and the coming of the Holy Spirit, is not just about physical prosperity and health, but about eternity. **John 3:16** says, "For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." Our purpose as Christians is not just about the blessings we receive, but about how many people we can bring into the Kingdom of God with us. **Matthew 28:19-20** commands us, "Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

We cannot become so focused on the physical and natural things of this world that we forget about eternity. **1 John 2:15-17** warns us, "Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever." We can't be so consumed with accumulating wealth, big houses, or nice cars that we neglect souls and how many people we can lead into the Kingdom of God. As the Bible says,**Mark 8:36** challenges us with this thought: "And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?"

If we are commanded by God to seek first His Kingdom, it makes me wonder: what is His number one priority? **Matthew 6:33** instructs us, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need." Is God more concerned about the size of our houses or about how many people will avoid the fiery torment of hell because of our efforts to win them to the Kingdom? **2 Peter 3:9** reassures us, "The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent."

Our priorities should reflect our concern for God’s command: **Mark 16:15** records Jesus' command: "And then He told them, 'Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.'" I dare say that most of us care less about how many people are born again than we should. It’s not just about what we feel in our hearts; it’s also about our actions. **James 2:17** tells us, "So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless." Does our checkbook show that we’re putting the Kingdom of God first, or does it show that we’re more concerned about material possessions and sending God just a small fraction of our resources? **Matthew 6:19-21** advises, "Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be."

We jump at an opportunity to consume the pleasures and comforts of this world but hesitate to witness to our own neighbors. **Luke 16:9** advises, "Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home." We won’t even invite our coworkers or family members to church, let alone volunteer in the church to help those who are actively trying to win souls. **Romans 10:14** asks, "But how can they call on Him to save them unless they believe in Him? And how can they believe in Him if they have never heard about Him? And how can they hear about Him unless someone tells them?"

We are so busy trying to squeeze every drop of happiness out of this life that we lose sight of what matters for eternity. **1 Corinthians 7:31** reminds us, "Those who use the things of the world should not become attached to them. For this world as we know it will soon pass away."

Last week, I talked about sowing, much of which was about what we can gain physically in this world. **2 Corinthians 9:6** says, "Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop." I believe in that, and I don’t take it back. It’s important. Christ paid a terrible price that includes those things. **Isaiah 53:5** declares, "But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed." But how much eternal seed are we sowing? **Galatians 6:8** challenges us: "Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit."

If we were truly convinced that Jesus Christ is coming soon, if we had a vision and a reality of how long eternity is, how glorious heaven is, and how terrible the horrors of hell are, we would live differently. **Revelation 22:12** reminds us, "Look, I am coming soon, bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds." Where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21) says, Are we like Martha, worried about all the tasks that need to be done, or are we like Mary, consumed with spending time with the Master? (Luke 10:41-42)

What does it mean to be Kingdom-minded? I believe it means being more concerned about what God is concerned about, not the other way around. **Matthew 6:33** again reminds us, "Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need." Clearly, God loved the world so much that He was willing to sacrifice His own Son in the cruelest fashion to gain a family of human beings. **Romans 5:8** tells us, "But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners." To be truly Kingdom-minded, we must be willing to do whatever it takes to win souls to the Kingdom of God. **1 Corinthians 9:22** expresses this heart: "When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some."

When we pray, how much of our time is spent asking for personal needs compared to praying for lost loved ones or for God to use us to further the Kingdom? Are we more obsessed with money than with souls? **1 Timothy 6:10** warns us, "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows."

I want everyone in this room to be healed of whatever ailment is in your body, and I believe the atonement provides for that. **Isaiah 53:4-5** affirms this: "Yet it was our weaknesses He carried; it was our sorrows that weighed Him down. And we thought His troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for His own sins! But He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed." But if you die with that ailment and are born again, you will live for eternity without that sickness, disease, or pain. However, if you are healed of your sickness but lose your soul and go to hell, hell is eternally horrible. **Mark 9:43** warns, "If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one hand than to go into the unquenchable fires of hell with two hands."
The Kingdom-minded person is more concerned about the eternal state of others than their own earthly comfort. **Philippians 2:3-4** encourages us, "Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too." Even the Apostle Paul said that while it was better for his followers that he remains alive, it was better for him to go on to heaven. (Philippians 1:21-24) But because they needed him, he chose to stay and serve God by serving his congregation.

This morning, I’m concerned that perhaps we are too earthly-minded and not focused enough on heaven and eternity. Myself included. **Romans 12:2** reminds us, "Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." So, I want to set the record straight: our number one focus should be on eternal things, and the temporary things of this world should be secondary. **2 Corinthians 4:18** concludes with this powerful truth: "So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever."

We must truly seek first the Kingdom of God, making the Great Commission of Jesus Christ our highest priority above all else. If we do this, I believe everything else will naturally fall into its proper place on our list of priorities. When we love God with all our heart, soul, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves, as commanded in **Matthew 22:37-39**, we cannot help but be in proper alignment with God's will.

God’s promises of healing and prosperity are not meant to satisfy our own lusts, covetousness, or selfish worldly desires. **James 4:3** warns, "And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure." We cannot love money or earthly pleasures more than God, as **1 Timothy 6:10** reminds us, "For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows." We must keep a close watch on our hearts and minds to ensure that these things do not subtly sneak into our lives. **Proverbs 4:23** advises, "Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life."

I believe that I am healed now, in the Name of Jesus.

Father, in the Name of Jesus, I confess Your Word concerning health and healing.
